Masinde Muliro University trains part of its staff on Kenya Sign Language(KSL)

Maside Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is one of the public universities in Kenya. It is a public institution established under the University Act, Guidelines and Procedures from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and University Governing Council in Kenya.

Kenya Sign Language (KSL) is the third official language in Kenya after English and Kiswahili. According to the University Act, Guidelines and Procedures, every public and private university must have staff/s that have great knowledge and understanding of the Kenya Sign Language (KSL).

In compliance with the Act, Masinde Muliro University (MMUST) trained five staff members on Kenya Sign Language (KSL) within a three month period:

1. Miss Lilian Kundu

2. Miss Pauline Adhiambo

3. Miss Garvin Nyarotso

4. Mr. Clevin Aswani

5. Mr. Vincent Mwoka


The staff will help in the interpretations during university graduations, events and official meetings. They have finished Basic Introduction which is the first phase of the training and will continue with the second phase(Advanced Certificate) of training at the beginning of January 2019.

This will enable the University of Choice improve information accessibility to Persons with Disability as provided for and stipulated in the Kenyan constitution of 2010.
