The body of a missing Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) student was found floating in a dam in Koromatangi area, Lurambi constituency, Kakamega County.
The body was retrieved by the police Yesterday evening 14th December 2018 after a local resident had informed them.
The body of the student was spotted by residents floating on water before they took the initiative of informing the police Yesterday evening.
The incident was confirmed by Kakamega County OCPD, Joseph Chebii. The identity of the student is yet to be confirmed although he was a third year student of MMUST as narrated by students present at the scene.
Mr. Chebii said,”We suspect he might have slipped into the dam while fetching water. This was not the first incident. A few months ago, two boys who had gone to wash clothes at the dam also drowned.”
He said the residents helped in identification of the body. The police boss labelled the water body a killer dam and advised residents to keep distance.
The deceased’s body has been taken to Kakamega County General Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem. Police have also lauched investigation to ascertain the cause of drowning.
The incident occurred concurrently with MMUST 13th Graduation which took place on Friday 14th December at the Graduation Square.
