The Dream of a Comrade

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the foundation of our institution – Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. So I’ve taken my pen and paper to dramatize this condition.

The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundation of our institution until corruption is fully addressed. There will be neither rest nor tranquility in MMUST until corruption is dealt with. To those who embrace integrity: we cannot walk alone and as we walk, we must plead never to turn back.  I say to you today that even though we face the menace of corruption, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the Integrity Organisation Constitution.

I have a dream that one day, along comrades’ walkways, Luos, Kalenjins, Kisiis, Luhyas and Kikuyus will stand together in the spirit of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the office of finance, an office sweltering with the heat of reluctance and incompetency, will be transformed into an oasis of service and professionalism. I have a dream that one day contesters for MMUSO office will not be judged by their tribe but by their character and vision. I have a dream that one day within the administration, with officials having their lips dripping with words of corruption and tribalism, one day right there comrades and administrators will join hands and build the university of choice. I have a dream today…I have a dream that one day every MMUST office will be scandal-free, every MMUSO leader will be a comrades’ servant. Corruption will be over and Comrades will be safe from insecurity within Lurambi and Kakamega.

Then will the sons and daughters of Masinde Muliro drink from the pot of knowledge and quench their thirst with Science and fill their stomach will Technology. With this faith, we will be able to transform MMUST into a true university of choice, free from corruption, tribalism and incompetency. And if MMUST is to be a University of Choice, this must become true.

So let integrity ring from the hilltops of Hall 4. Let integrity ring from the old Hall 1. Let integrity ring from the overcrowded Hall 2 and Hall 3. Let integrity ring from the magnificent MMUST Library. Let integrity ring from the home of Science – SPD. Let integrity ring from the Home of Technology and Engineering – LBB and MED. But not only that. Let integrity ring from the Vice Chancellor’s office. Let integrity ring from the New administration block. Let integrity ring from the Dean’s office. Let integrity ring from the Cobra’s office. Let integrity ring…

When we let integrity to ring – when we let it ring from every office and official, from every hostel and resident, from every lecturer and student, we will be able to speed up that day when MMUST fraternity will be able to join hands and sing in the sweet words of our Kenyan National Anthem, “Oh God of all Creation, Bless our Land and Nation.” Hasta La Victoria Siempre. We are free from corruption at last!
